Normalization with Israel. Why it is good for Africa

The Islamist government of former Moroccan prime minister Abdelilah Benkirane could still oppose any trade or agreements with Israel. During a session in parliament, the deputy minister in charge of foreign trade Mohamed Abbou said in a ready answer to a question from an MP regarding Morocco’s importing of Israeli dates — a subject that created quite a buzz at that time — that “Morocco does not have trade relations with Israel”.

It was loud and clear. He even said that the government “is keen to fight against the entry of any Israeli product into Morocco.” The proof? The government, he said, never granted a license to any entity wanting to import dates or other Israeli products.
